 Technology and Tourism in Ecuador

Ecuador, officially the Republic of Ecuador, is a sovereign country located in the northwestern region of South America, made up of twenty-four provinces. It limits to the north with Colombia, to the south and east with Peru and to the west with the Pacific Ocean, which separates it from the Galapagos Islands by thousands of kilometers between the Santa Elena peninsula and San Cristóbal island. Through its territorial sea corresponding to the Galapagos Islands, it also has maritime limits with Costa Rica 14. A volcanic section of the Andes Mountains divides the territory from north to south, leaving the Gulf of Guayaquil and a wooded plain on its western flank, and the Amazon to the east. Ecuador occupies an area of 256,370 km²5. It is the tenth most populous country in America, with just over seventeen million inhabitants, the most densely populated in South America 15 and the fifth most densely populated in all of America.

Specifically, the place that we will talk about today is Quito "La carita de Dios" as its nickname is usually. Quito is located in the province of Pichincha and is the capital of Ecuador, is surrounded by mountains and is also located where the Andes mountain range passes that runs throughout South America. Thus, we could say that in this small space of 372.4 km² we can find many tourist attractions, for all tastes and all prices.

We will start in the northern part of Quito:

  • Middle of the World: It is located in the parish of  San Antonio of the Metropolitan District of Quito. It is one of the most touristic places for foreigners since who is not curious to know where half of planet Earth is really? The most pleasant things you could do while there is walk along the lines that divide the planet from the Northern Hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere, make yourself a clean, try to put an egg on top of a nail or see how much you weigh being in the middle of the Planet since It is scientifically proven that being in the middle of the Planet you weigh one kilo less.

  •  Parque La Carolina: Its extension is very wide and has many things to do, it has several basketball, soccer and ball courts, a running track, a green space to relax and plenty of space to walk quietly, we can also find many games for children and a small lagoon where we can navigate in boats that already exist in the park.

  • Quitsato Solar Clock: it is a cultural-tourist place that is located exactly on the Equatorial line or Parallel Zero near Cayambe, 47 km north of Quito. Its main characteristic is that it reveals fundamental aspects of the astronomical knowledge that pre-Hispanic cultures had that revolve around the concept of half the world and the name Ecuador.

Tourist places in the center of Quito:

  • Churches: The center of Quito is characterized by wanting to preserve the Quito of years ago, so there we can find innumerable churches that were built since the beginning of the City of Quito. One of the most important is the "Basilica de Voto Nacional" because it is a religious neo-Gothic building. Apart from that we can find many others such as: El Sagrario Church, Nuestra Merced Church, Quito Metropolitan Cathedral, Santa Bárbara Catholic Church, El Carmen Alto Church, etc.

  • El Panecillo: It is the most visited city in the city, it has become one of the most important monuments from which you can appreciate the big city of the Ecuadorian capital. At the top of the small natural elevation there is a large aluminum structure called "Virgen de Quito".

Other tourist places to visit:

  •  Pichincha Volcano: They are a group of hills and volcanoes in Ecuador belonging to the Andes Mountains. It is located 12 kilometers west of Quito in which you will have two paths that you can follow when you reach the volcano ridge, the path to the right will take you to the highest point of the volcano and the path to the left will take you to visit the altar of the Virgen del Cinto.

 Typical food
If we talk about typical food, since Quito is characterized by having a very extensive food distribution thanks to its different climates in its regions, the typical dishes are full of flavors and colors.

  • Hornado.

  • Llapingachos.

  • Mote con chicharrón.

  • Fritada.

  • Rice with fish (corvina, tilapia, trucha, atún, etc.)

  • Chicken stew.

  • Cheesy corn.

And if we talk about his music, you will hear some of Julio Jaramillo's corridors in its beautiful streets in particular.

And that's when I love to quote a phrase that really identifies me as Ecuadorian.

"Ecuadorians are rare and unique beings, they live peacefully in the middle of crunching volcanoes, they live poor in the midst of incomparable riches and they rejoice with sad music"
-Alexander von Humboldt
So now you know, visit Quito, you really won't regret it as it is an Eden of wonders.

"Nice Quito of my life, nice Quito of my love"
